Ball State suffered a 27-20 loss at home Saturday to Indiana State, which marked only the Cardinals' fourth loss in the past 21 regular season games . . . The loss snapped Ball State's nine game home winning streak, which tied for the third longest home winning streak in the school's history . . . It also marked the first time in 23 games the Cardinals have suffered back-to-back losses.
Ball State has allowed only 54 points in its first three games, which ranks 27th in the country in scoring defense . . . The 54 points allowed by the Cardinals this season are the fewest points allowed through their first three games since the 1995 season . . . Ball State allowed Colgate to score only 10 points in the season opener, which marked the fewest points scored by a Ball State opponent in the Pete Lembo era and the fewest since the Cardinals held Buffalo to three points in 2010.
Ball State ranks 14th in the nation in rushing defense and has allowed only 82.3 rushing yards per game through its first three contests . . . The Cardinals limited Indiana State to only 44 rushing yards, the fewest for a Ball State opponent since Toledo rushed for only 14 yards in 2008 . . . The 247 total rushing yards allowed in the first three games are the fewest the Cardinals have surrendered in a three game stretch since Toledo, Temple and Bowling Green combined for 242 in 2009.
The Cardinals have allowed opponents to convert on only 31.3 percent of their third downs this season to rank 31st in the latest NCAA statistics.
Ball State limited Big Ten Conference foe Iowa to only three scores in the Hawkeyes' six trips inside the red zone and the Cardinals rank 13th in the nation in red zone defense . . . Ball State has allowed teams to score on only 63.6 percent of their trips inside the red zone.
The Cardinals competed in the GoDaddy Bowl after the 2013 season to mark back-to-back bowl appearances for only the second time in the school's 90-year history of football . . . The only other time Ball State has played in back-to-back bowls was after the 2007 and 2008 seasons.
Ball State posted 10 victories in 2013, which marks only the third time in the school's football history the Cardinals have won at least 10 games in a season . . . The Cardinals were 10-1 overall in 1978 . . . Ball State was 12-2 overall in 2008.
