The Cardinals Nest
- Ball State returns to action Saturday when it hosts Oakland for a 4 p.m. tipoff in Worthen Arena. The Cardinals went 1-1 last weekend in its 2014 Ball State Federal Credit Union Thanksgving Classic. After opening the tournament with a convincing 85-59 victory over Murray State, Ball State fell in the championship game to Duquesne Sunday afternoon by a score of 82-62. Junior Nathalie Fontaine earned all-tournament team honors after scoring 18 points versus Murray State and 10 points against Duquesne. For the tournament, Fontaine and sophomore Calyn Hosea each averaged 14.0 points per contest. Hosea also had a career-best 16-point performance versus Duquesne. Senior Shelbie Justice closed out the weekend with 11.0 points a game and Jill Morrison averaged 10.0 per contest.
- Ball State has not played Oakland since the 1998-99 season. The Cardinals suffered a 77-71 loss to the Golden Grizzlies at the Liberty Lady Flames Classic in Lynchburg, Va., under the direction of former head coach Robyn Markey. Saturday's game is only the second meeting all-time between the two schools. The Golden Grizzlies lead the all-time series 1-0. Oakland enters today's game with a 3-3 record with wins over Chicago State (66-40), Mid-American Conference affiliate Miami University (65-51) and Rochester College (96-38). The Golden Grizzlies suffered losses to Miami (66-53), Central Florida (98-65) and Michigan State (79-64).
- Ball State is 4-5 when it plays on Dec. 6, while head women's basketball coach Brady Sallee is 2-0 on this date in Worthen Arena. The Cardinals have won on this date the last two times, beating Detroit Mercy in overtime (73-64) in 2012 and Western Kentucky (85-77) in 2013.
