VanWinkle Named Conference Swimmer Of The Week

MUNCIE, Ind. – After Ball State took first at the 11th annual Douglas A. Coers Invitational against Grand Valley State University, Jordan VanWinkle has been named the Mid-American Conference Swimmer of the Week, announced Monday.
Ball State senior VanWinkle turned in a career best this weekend in the 50 freestyle with a 24.76 split time. The Newburgh, Ind. native earned five first place event wins in addition to a second and third place finish throughout the two day event.
The Cardinals clenched the 400 freestyle relay to round out the invitational by the combination of seniors VanWinkle, Elaine Pitsas, Carlena Magley and sophomore Jessica Extine for a finished 3:35.09. VanWinkle's other first place finishes included the 200 free (1:55.11), 400 medley relay (3:56.90), 500 free (5:09.00), and the 200 free relay (1:38.03).
With the weekend in the books, VanWinkle also recorded three new season best times, in the 50 free (24.76), 200 free relay (1:38.03) and in the 800 free relay (7:57.09).
Ball State women's swimming and diving ultimately won 13-of-21 events over Grand Valley and took first in the invitational with a score of 795.5-725.5.
The Ball State women's swimming and diving team will be back on the road Dec. 5 and 6, when it travels to Ypsilanti, Mich. to compete in the co-ed Eastern Michigan Invitational.
