Men?s Basketball Signs Teague, Moses to NLIs
November 13, 2014 | Men's Basketball
MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State men's basketball program added size and athleticism to its future roster this week with the signing of Tahjai Teague and Trey Moses to National Letters of Intent.
Teague is a 6-foot-8, 190-pound forward from Pike High School in Indianapolis, while Moses is a 6-foot-9, 240-pound post player from Eastern High School in Louisville. Both players are set to begin their senior seasons and will join the Cardinals in 2015-16.
“We are really excited to add both Trey and Tahjai to the program,” Ball State head coach James Whitford said. “They are two really talented players and high character kids who are going to bring a lot to our team, and they will give us some really valuable front court depth.”
Teague is a four-star recruit by 247Sports, which rates him as the No. 103 player nationally in this year's recruiting class. He was an Indiana Junior All-Star last season after averaging 11.2 points and 8.3 rebounds per game for a Pike team that reached the regional championship game.
A cousin of current NBA players Jeff and Marquis Teague, Tahjai Teague followed that pair at Pike, where he plays for coach Bill Zych. The Pike program also produced current Ball State point guard Zavier Turner. Teague played on the Eric Gordon Central Stars traveling team coached by Pat Mullins.
“Tahjai has length, a really high skill level and the ability shoot the ball,” Whitford said. “He has a great feel for the game and can play both inside and out. We think he can be a terrific small forward or power forward in our program. He is going to have a great career at Ball State.”
Moses averaged 12.5 points, eight rebounds and four blocks per game as a junior in helping Eastern to a 22-9 record. He shot 67 percent from the floor and was named to the All-Seventh Region Second Team, playing for coach Dave Henley. Mid-American Basketball Consultants lists Moses as the No. 3 player in the state of Kentucky for 2015.
“Trey is a very skilled big with a lot of upside,” Whitford said. “He has soft hands, good feet and a really good work ethic. He will be an instrumental force for us as a face-up five or, at times, a face-up four. He can score both inside and out, and his best basketball is certainly to come.”
Moses is coming off a big summer playing AAU basketball for Hoop Dreams coached by Steve Quattrocchi. He serves as a peer tutor for special needs students at Eastern and, along with Teague, has expressed an interest in the Digital Sports Production program in Ball State's highly regarded telecommunications department.
