Women's Tennis Competes At Roberta Alison Classic

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Ball State women's tennis team competed at the 2014 Roberta Alison Fall Classic Friday which was hosted by the University of Alabama.
Courtney Earnest paired up with Olivia Large and defeated Mississippi State's duo of Alex Corder and Naomi Tran by a score of 8-5 and will advance in the Mari Muller Draw at 9 a.m. Saturday. Courtney Wild and Olivia Calderon fell to Michigan's Mira Ruder-Hook and Annie Wierda 8-4 in the Ttia Wilmink draw but will compete in the consolation bracket Saturday. In the Courtney McLane draw Toni Ormond and Ashlyn Rang suffered an 8-1 loss to Stephanie N'tcha and Savannah Wood of Samford.
In singles action, Wild took down Lisa Piller of Loyola Marymount in straight sets (6-0, 6-1) to advance to quarterfinals of the Jane Phillips Draw but then lost to Michigan's Sara Remynse, 6-2, 6-3. Both Earnest and Bethany Moore would suffer losses in their respective draws. Rosalina Calderon won a three set stunner over Lauren Caballero in the Jenny Ketchum draw but then fell to Nayara Moraes in the quarterfinals. Rang and Ormond both lost in the Jalen Whalen draw but Large ended the day with two victories and will compete in the semifinals Saturday against Samford's Savannah Wood in the Rebecca Baum draw.
The Ball State women's tennis team will continue fall action Saturday at the 2014 Roberta Alison Fall Classic.
