Men's Golf Tees It up Monday at Firestone
October 05, 2014 | Men's Golf
The Ball State men's golf team ventures to Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio, this week for the Firestone Invitational.
The Cardinals will be looking to replicate some recent success on the par-72 North Course. They own two top-five finishes in their past two appearances in the tournament, including a win in their most recent appearance in 2012. They also won at Firestone in 2006.
The action gets underway with 36 holes Monday, beginning with an 8:15 a.m. shotgun start. The third and final round will be played Tuesday. Live scoring throughout the event is available at birdiefire.com.
Ball State is coming off its best performance of the season in a second-place showing at the Fighting Irish Golf Classic. McCormick Clouser finished as the individual medalist for his first collegiate victory.
Clouser will once again be joined in the lineup by fellow senior Zach Yinger along with freshmen Michael Makris and Michael VanDeventer. James Blackwell is back in the lineup this week, while Johnny Watts will compete as an individual.
The Firestone Invitational features 17 teams: tournament host Akron, Ball State, College of Charleston, Eastern Michigan, Francis Marion, Georgetown, Illinois State, Kansas State, Miami University, Ohio, Old Dominion, Presbyterian, Saint Mary's (Calif.), USC-Aiken, Valparaiso, Western Kentucky and Xavier.
Following this week's event, Ball State will continue its fall season by hosting the Sagamore Fall Preview Oct. 6-7 in Noblesville, Ind. The event will be played at Sagamore Golf Club, site of next spring's NCAA Regional.
