Field Hockey Travels To Conference Leader Kent State

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State field hockey team (5-9, 1-3 MAC) will hit the road again this weekend to take on Mid-American Conference opponent Kent State (6-8, 3-0 MAC) Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. in Kent, Ohio.
Ball State is coming off of a weekend loss after posting a 5-3 final against the Ohio Bobcats. In the Mid-American Conference game, senior Tarel Teach (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes/Beach Premier/Icoyo) led the Cardinals with two assists and three shots on goal for the day. Despite having the advantage of ten penalty corners and shots to the oppositions seven, Ball State was unable to close out with the victory.
Sophomore Morgan Nash (Houston, Texas/Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart) was able to cinch her first career goal following senior Tori Widrick (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia/BC Cyclones/Futures) and sophomore Colleen McGlynn (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy) in the match.
As a team, the Cardinals are second in the MAC in goals allowed (39) and assists per game (1.64). Ball State is also ranked third in scoring margin (-0.88), scoring average (1.75), goals against average (2.65), goals scored (26), goals scored per game (1.86), goals allowed per game (2.79), assists (23) and saves per game (5.86). Junior goalkeeper Shelby Henley stacks second in the MAC in goals against average (2.55) and save percentage (0.682).
SCOUTING KENT STATE: Kent State currently holds a 6-8 record in the 2014 season while remaining undefeated (3-0) in the Mid-American Conference. Senior Hannah Faulkner leads the team with 12 goals followed by senior Julia Hofmann tallying nine. Goalkeeping duties have been handled by sophomore Andrea Rinehart for a tallied 42 goals against, 2.69 goals against average while registering a 0.669 save percentage on 223 shots faced.
Kent State dominates the MAC in scoring margin (0.00), scoring average (2.96), shutouts (3), shots (236), shots per game (16.86), goals scored (42), goals scored per game (3.00), assists (37) and assists per game (2.64)
SERIES HISTORY: Ball State holds the 33-31 (0.516) all-time advantage over Kent State, though Kent State has snagged the last seven meetings over the Cardinals. Most recently, last year's meeting of the two teams resulted in the Golden Flash victory 2-5 in Muncie.
