Soccer Hosts Important MAC Games This Weekend
October 16, 2014 | Soccer
As the Mid-American Conference women's soccer season enters its stretch run, Ball State is home for a pair of games this weekend at the Briner Sports Complex.
Ball State (7-4-2, 3-3 MAC) welcomes Western Michigan at 3:30 p.m. Friday and NIU at 2 p.m. Sunday. It is an opportunity for the Cardinals to move up the standings with games against the two teams directly in front of them in the West Division.
Both games will be carried live on Ball State's student radio station WCRD. The radio broadcasts will also be streamed live for free on ballstatesports.com.
Friday's contest with Western Michigan is a rematch of last year's MAC Tournament championship game. The Broncos came away with a 1-0 win that day to earn a spot in the NCAA tournament.
This year, the Broncos come to Muncie at 9-4-1 (3-2-1 MAC) after playing MAC leader Buffalo to a draw on the road to close last weekend. NIU is 5-7-3 (3-1-2), having recorded just one loss since the start of conference play. The Huskies will visit Miami on Friday before making their way to Muncie.
Ball State is coming off a key road win Sunday at Kent State in which the Cardinals recorded their sixth shutout of the season. Victoria Jacobs scored the game's only goal, becoming the 13th different Ball State player to score this season. That's more than any team in the league.
It is a tight race in the MAC standings with five games remaining in the regular season. The teams are jockeying for position with the top four in the final standings earning a first-round home game in the conference tournament.
