Benson Earns Third Player Of The Week Honor In 2014

MUNCIE, Ind. - - For the third time this season, Ball State redshirt junior middle hitter Hayley Benson (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Bradley) has been named the Mid-American Conference West Division Offensive Player of the Week as voted on by the league's 12 head coaches.
A five-time career MAC Player of the Week award winner, earning offensive honors four times and defensive accolades once, Benson helped the Cardinals claim wins over Toledo and at Buffalo last week.
Over the two matches, Benson led the Ball State attack with 30 kills and posted a .569 (30-1-51) attack percentage. She also recorded five block assists in each of the matches to finish the weekend with a team-best 1.25 block-per-set average.
In Thursday's four-set victory over Toledo, Benson led all players with 16 kills, a .536 (16-1-28) attack percentage and five total blocks. Saturday at Buffalo, Benson recorded a season-high .609 (14-0-23) attack percentage, while finishing second on the squad with 14 kills and five blocks.
Benson enters the week ranked first in the MAC in league-only matches with a .465 (85-13-155) attack percentage, while her 3.40 kills-per-set average in MAC-only contests is sixth. For the year, Benson ranks third in the league with a .354 (208-52-441) attack percentage and leads the Ball State attack with a 2.70 kills-per-set average.
The Ball State women's volleyball team returns to action Friday, when it hosts defending MAC regular season and tournament champion Ohio at 7 p.m. inside Worthen Arena. Kent State will visit Muncie for another 7 p.m. first serve Saturday.
