Soccer Home for Two MAC Games This Weekend
October 01, 2014 | Soccer
The Ball State soccer team continues Mid-American Conference play this weekend with a pair of home games at the Briner Sports Complex.
The Cardinals welcome two West Division rivals with games Friday at 5 p.m. against Central Michigan and Sunday at 2 p.m. against Toledo. WCRD broadcasts of both games will be streamed live on ballstatesports.com.
Bolstered by a five-goal outburst last Friday against Bowling Green, Ball State enters play this weekend as the highest scoring and most balanced offensive team in the league. The Cardinals' 18 goals have come from 12 different players.
Ball State (5-2-2, 1-1 MAC) will be looking to bounce back from an overtime loss Sunday at Eastern Michigan that snapped its five-game unbeaten streak. Central Michigan (2-7-1, 0-2 MAC) and Toledo (3-6-1, 0-2 MAC) are both coming off home losses to Western Michigan and Northern Illinois in the opening weekend of conference play.
Central Michigan has held the upper hand in the all-time series with Ball State, but the Cardinals recorded a signature road win over the Chippewas last season in the MAC Tournament quarterfinals. Gabby Veldman scored the game-winner in the 87th minute as Ball State advanced, 2-1.
The Cardinals and Toledo played to a 2-2 draw in Muncie in the only meeting between the teams last season. Ball State owns an 8-6-1 edge all-time against the Rockets.
Veldman leads the Cardinals with three goals this season, all of which have been game-winners, and nine total points. She and Cailey Starck have both recorded a team-high three assists.
