August 26, 2013 | Soccer
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Ball State senior captain Michelle Blok has been named the Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Week for women's soccer.
Blok helped the Cardinals begin the season with two victories over the weekend and played a critical goal-scoring role in Friday's season opener against Northern Iowa.
The Noblesville, Ind., product scored two goals within five minutes of each other to lift Ball State to a 2-1 victory over the Panthers. The Cardinals trailed 1-0 after the first half, but Blok changed that quickly at the beginning of the second, scoring in the 48th minute from just outside the box to tie the game.
She then added a second goal in the 53rd minute from nearly the same spot on the field for what proved to be the game winner.
Ball State went on to add a 3-0 victory Sunday over Green Bay, becoming the only team in the conference to post a 2-0 record in the opening weekend.
The Cardinals will return to action Friday at IPFW with their first regular-season road game. The contest is slated for a 5 p.m. start in Fort Wayne.
