Cross Country Takes Fourth @ Indiana Intercollegiates

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - - Ball State senior cross country runner MaryKate Mellen (Michigan City, Ind./Michigan City) posted a career-fast time of 18:16 to lead the Cardinals to a fourth-place showing at the 26-team Indiana Intercollegiates hosted by Indiana State Friday evening.
Mellen, who finished seventh overall, helped the Cardinals finish with 161 points trailing only Indiana (29), Purdue (43) and Indiana State (142). IUPUI rounded out the top five teams with 198 points.
Sophomore Courtney Edon (New Palestine, Ind. /New Palestine) was BSU's second-fastest runner at the meet, clocking a season-fist time of 18:59 to finish 24th.
Overall, six of BSU's seven runners entered in the event posted season-best times. Freshman Katelyn DeVries (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) was the Cardinals third-best runner, finishing in third overall at 19:11.
Rounding out Ball State's scored runners were freshman Kelly Swift (West Lafayette, Ind./West Lafayette) and sophomore Caitlynn Edon (New Palestine, Ind. /New Palestine) with season-best efforts of 19:26 (43rd) and 19:40 (53rd), respectively.
Also running for the Cardinals at the meet were junior Esther Tirado (Dominican Republic/Lafayette Jefferson) with a time of 20:24 and freshman Danielle Dahl (Chelsea, Mich./Chelsea) in a career-best 21:16.
The Ball State cross country team returns to action Saturday, Sept. 29, when it competes in the Greater Louisville Classic which is scheduled to start at 10 a.m.
