Tharp Represents Men?s S&D on Academic All-Mac Squad

MUNCIE, Ind. - Ball State men's swimming & diving sophomore butterfly specialist Drew Tharp (Evansville, Ind./Reitz Memorial) has been named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference squad as announced by the league office.
Tharp, a business major with a 4.0 grade-point average, has been named to the squad for the first time in his career with the Cardinals.
He earns the honor after picking up a win in the 200 fly (1:51.86) at the Butler Invitational and clocked in at 1:54.06 in the 200 fly versus Miami. Tharp also tallied 32nd in the 50 free preliminaries at the MAC Championships.
A total of 18 student-athletes earned Academic All-MAC honors, with Eastern Michigan leading all schools with seven selections, followed by Southern Illinois with four selections.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50% of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award. Outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments for the current season are only considered.
