Softball Picked To Finish Second In MAC West

MUNCIE, Ind. - - The Ball State softball team has been selected to finish second in the Mid-American Conference West Division as voted on by the league's 12 head coaches in the annual preseason poll released Tuesday.
The Cardinals, who finished third in the MAC West Division last season with a 34-24 (13-8 MAC) record, picked up a pair of first-place votes in the poll and trailed only MAC West preseason favorite Western Michigan which picked up nine first-place tallies.
Northern Illinois was picked third in the MAC West Division and earned one first-place vote, followed by Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan and Toledo.
Miami was chosen to win the MAC East Division with 10 of the 12 first-place votes, followed by Kent State (two first-place votes), Ohio, Akron, Buffalo and Bowling Green.
In addition to being chosen to win the MAC West, the coaches voted Western Michigan as the preseason favorite to win the 2012 MAC Tournament.
The Ball State softball team opens its 2012 season Friday, Feb. 17, when it travels to Troy, Ala., for the 2012 Quality Inn Classic. The Cardinals will face East Tennessee State (9 a.m. CT) and Missouri (2 p.m. CT) in the first day of the three-day event.
