Buehler Named MAC Co-Defensive Player of the Week
October 26, 2012 | Soccer
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Ball State senior goalkeeper Aubrey Buehler was selected Friday as the Mid-American Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week for women's soccer.
Buehler matched her season-high with seven saves Thursday in a 1-1 draw at Miami in the final game of the regular season. The Waukesha, Wis., product helped the Cardinals become the first MAC team all year to tie Miami, which was previously a perfect 10-0 in conference play.
Buehler stopped each of the final seven shots on goal she faced, including six after halftime, to preserve the draw. She helped the Cardinals (8-6-5, 5-3-3 MAC) guarantee a winning season and lock in the No. 5 seed for the MAC Tournament.
Ball State will open tournament play Sunday at 1 p.m. at No. 4 seed Kent State. The winner will advance to the semifinals to be played the next weekend.
This week's award is the second this season for Buehler, who shares the honor with Eastern Michigan goalkeeper Megan McCabe. Buehler was also named the league's top defensive performer on Oct. 8 after posting back-to-back shutouts against Eastern Michigan and Western Michigan.
Ball State's Skylar Chew (Aug. 28) and Pavla Benyrova (Sept. 24) have also earned the award this season, giving the Cardinals four defensive player of the week selections as a team.
