October 22, 2012 | Women's Volleyball
MUNCIE, Ind. - - After her impressive blocking performance last Friday at Bowling Green, Ball State women's volleyball senior middle hitter Lisa Scott (McLean, Va./Langley/Maryland) has been named the Mid-American Conference West Division Defensive Player of the Week.
Scott, who shares this week's MAC West defensive award with Central Michigan's Jenna Coates, is a two-time league honoree this season after earning MAC West Division Offensive Player of the Week accolades for the week of Oct. 1-7.
In helping the Cardinals hand league-leader Bowling Green its first MAC loss of the season last Friday, Scott racked up a career-high 13 total blocks, including one solo block and 12 block assists. The 12 block assists tie as the fourth-best single match total in program history, while the 13 total blocks tie as the ninth-best single match effort. Both are the most for a BSU player since Sept. 6, 2006.
In addition, the team's 21 total blocks against the Falcons tie as the ninth-best single match total in program history and are the most for a Ball State squad since Sept. 28, 2006.
Scott would go on to add four more blocks Saturday at Miami, including a pair of solo stuffs. She also smashed 17 kills against the RedHawks, one shy of her career high, and posted a .361 hitting mark in the match.
Scott finished the weekend averaging 1.89 blocks per set, well above her season average of 0.88. She also tallied 25 kills and a .274 hitting mark over the two matches, while boasting 3.89 points per set.
Scott enters the week ranked first in the MAC with a .394 hitting percentage in league-only matches, while her overall mark of .347 is second in the conference. Scott's 1.03 blocks-per-set average in conference play ranks ninth.
Scott and the Ball State women's volleyball team returns to action Thursday, when they battle travel partner Toledo on the road in a 7 p.m. first serve. The Cardinals will then trek to Buffalo for a 7:30 p.m. match Saturday.
