Men's Tennis Hosts 33rd Annual Fall Invite

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State University men's tennis team is set to host the Ball State Invitational, which will begin Friday and will end Sunday. Competition will take place at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center.
"We are looking forward to hosting the annual Ball State Fall Invitational," said head men's tennis coach Bill Richards. "We enjoy show casing our beautiful facility and anticipate a great tournament. There are many strong teams participating, representing six conferences. The quality of play will be very high."
This marks the 33rd year the Cardinals have hosted the invitational. The tournament consists of a 12-team field, which includes Ball State, Butler, DePaul, Duquesne, Eastern Kentucky, IPFW, IUPUI, Louisville, Marquette, Northern Illinois, Purdue and Wisconsin-Green Bay.
The tournament includes three flights (A, B, and C) of singles with draws of 32 apiece. There will also be three flights of doubles with draws of 16 apiece. There will also be consolation play for first round losers in both singles and doubles.
BSU tennis welcomes back former player and alumnus Steve Rodecap, who is the head coach at Marquette. Rodecap played at Ball State from 1992-96 while helping the Cardinals to a trio of Mid-American Conference Championship titles (1992-93, 1993-94, 1994-95). The Anderson, Ind., native is in his year eighth year at the helm of the Golden Eagles.
Bill Richards begins his 40th year as head coach of the Cardinals. The Ball State men's tennis team won the Mid-American Conference Tournament last season while earning the school's seventh automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Richards was named MAC coach of the year for the 12th time in his career at Ball State. BSU also welcomes back junior Dalton Albertin who received First Team All-MAC honors and senior Cliff Morrison who garnered Second Team All-MAC, Most Outstanding Player of the MAC Tournament along with being voted to the All-MAC Tournament team. Junior Austin Sansone was also a member of the All-MAC Tournament team.
