Football Team Goes Through First Practice
August 05, 2011 | Football
With 29 days left before the season opener vs. Indiana at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind., Ball State's football team began Fall Camp with a night practice Thursday.
First-year head coach Pete Lembo will lead the Cardinals in their season opener at 7 p.m. Sept. 3 in the home of the National Football League's Indianapolis Colts.
"Having our true freshman on campus for summer school makes them feel like part of the family," Lembo says. "One of the scariest things about preseason camp is walking in that locker room for the first time and seeing guys that are three or four years older than you and you have never seen them before. But by being here those five or six weeks, they are familiar with guys, they know their way around the building, they have worked out in the stadium. This allows some of the anxiety that goes along with preseason day one to be gone. They can come out here and be more comfortable with where they are instead of walking around on eggshells."
