Track & Field Heads To MAC Indoor Championships

MUNCIE, Ind. - - The Ball State indoor track & field team travels to Bowling Green's Perry Field House this weekend for the 2011 Mid-American Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships.
The two-day event kicks off Friday at 10:30 for the women, with action in the pentathlon. The top eight performers in each event will score based on a 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 scale.
Last season, the Cardinals placed 10th among the 12 league teams with 25 points.
Senior Thekla Lorenz (Hamburg, Germany) is BSU's top returning performer from last season's event, as she placed third in the pentathlon with 3,771 points. This season, Lorenz enters the meet ranked eighth in the long jump (18-10.75) and 13th in the pentathlon (2845).
Freshman Rebecca Lomax (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport H.S.) is poised to score big points for the Cardinals in the long jump, as she enters the MAC Championships ranked first in the long jump with a height of 5-8.75. She is also ranked 10th in the league in the pentathlon (3158).
Senior Ra'Jae Marable (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer H.S.) enters the competition ranked third in the league in the 60m hurdles with a season-fast time of 8.71. Marable won the event as a freshman (8.56), while placing sixth as a sophomore (8.79) and eighth as a junior (8.95).
Senior Ali Bishel (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton H.S.), the Women's Most Outstanding Performer at the 2009 MAC Indoor Championships, returns as a five-time champion and enters the meet ranked ninth in the league in the 3,000m run (9:56.65).
