Scouting Ball State: Ball State enters the Akron contest with a 9-14 overall record and 4-6 mark in the Mid-American Conference. The Cardinals have dropped their last three contests Buffalo (77-61), Ohio (68-59) and Bowling Green (61-46). Senior forward Emily Maggert leads the squad, averaging 15.5 points per game ,while senior guard Ty'Ronda Benning adds 12.9 points per contest. The game against Akron marks the last MAC East Division team the Cardinals will face during regular season action. Ball State begins its second round of competition against MAC West Division opponents Wednesday at home versus Eastern Michigan.
Scouting Akron: The Zips will face the Cardinals with a 10-12 overall record and a 3-7 MAC stand. Akron is coming off of a 72-43 road win at Northern Illinois. The Zips own a 5-6 home record and they are led by Rachel Tecca, who is averaging 17.1 points per game. Akron has earned MAC victories over NIU, Western Michigan and Ohio.
The Coaches: Ball State head coach Kelly Packard is in her third season at Ball State . . . Packard's overall record at Ball State is 49-40 (.550), while her Mid-American Conference mark is 25-17. . . Jodi Kest is in her fifth season at Akron. . . Kest's overall record at Akron is 56-88 and she owns a MAC record of 25-49.
The Series: This is the 27th meeting between Ball State and Akron . . . The Cardinals lead the all-time series record 17-9. . . Before losing to Akron in overtime last season 66-64, Ball State had won its last nine contests against the Zips . . . The Cardinals last meeting in Akron resulted in a 61-55 victory in 2009.
Packard Embarking on 50 wins: Head Coach Kelly Packard has earned 49 career victories at Ball State in three seasons (2008-present). With a win over Akron Saturday, Packard could get win number 50, which makes her the only other coach besides Tracy Roller (2001-04) to earn 50 victories in three seasons.
