Ruehl Torpedos to Second MAC Women?s Swimmer Honor

MUNCIE, Ind. - Sophomore swimmer Bridgette Ruehl (Lowell, Ind./Lowell) has been named the Mid-American Conference Women's Swimmer of the Week after helping guide Ball State to a perfect 8-0 record on the season with a 182-108 victory versus Michigan State Saturday at Lewellen Aquatic Center.
Ruehl tallied two individual wins and combined on a Ball State relay victory as she broke both the program and pool records in the 100 breast (1:03.04) and posted a second pool record in the 200 breast (2:18.57), after swimming the second leg of the first-place 200 medley relay, which clocked in at 1:44.55.
The art major now owns the top-three times in the 100 breast for the Ball State women's swimming and diving program (1:03.04 - Dec. 10, 2011; 1:03.94 - Feb. 23, 2011; 1:04.12 - Dec. 4, 2010).
Ruehl tallied the honor for the second time in her career and second time this season, having first earned the award earned Oct. 26 after helping guide the Ball State women's swimming & diving team to a 162-138 victory in Ball State's season opener versus Evansville at Roy and Mary Wyttenbach Pool.
She added phenomenal first-place efforts in the 100 breast (1:05.89) and 200 breast (2:22.56) and also swam the second leg for the first-place 200 medley relay which clocked in at 1:48.26 against the Purple Aces.
Ruehl and the Cardinals return to action Friday, Jan. 13 as Ball State hosts Eastern Illinois at 6 p.m. from Lewellen Aquatic Center.
