WBB Earns Exhibition Win Over St. Joseph College

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's basketball team opened its season with an 82-50 exhibition win against St. Joseph's Thursday night in Worthen Arena.
All of the Cardinals saw action with freshman guard Brittany Carter leading all scorers with 11 points. Ball State also had three players chip in nine points, sophomore guard Brandy Woody, senior captain Suzanne Grossnickle and junior guard Mercedes Miller. Defensively, Woody had nine boards on the night.
For the game Ball State outshot St. Joseph's 49.3 to 28.1, while outrebounding the Pumas 47 to 40.
After a layup from Grossnickle at the 10:35 mark in the first half giving Ball State the 18-9 edge, the Cardinals held the Pumas scoreless for over five minutes and built a 16-point lead for at the 8:08 mark
At the half, Ball State headed into the lockerroom up 44-15. Sophomore forward Katie Murphy led all scorers at halftime with eight points. The Cardinals defense held the Pumas to only 16.7 percent shooting from the field in the first half.
The Ball State women's basketball team will open its 2011-12 season at home Friday, Nov. 11, as it hosts the Illinois State Redbirds in Worthen Arena with a 7 p.m. tipoff.
