Richter Earns MAC Swimmer of the Week Honors

MUNCIE, Ind. - Sophomore Haley Richter (Roanoke, Ind./Columbia City) been named the Mid-American Conference Women's Swimmer of the Week after leading the Cardinals in their first-place effort (734) during the 2011 Doug Coers Invitational Saturday and Sunday at Lewellen Aquatic Center.
The honor stands as Richter's first of the season and in her career after she won two individual events and combined on four Ball State relay victories during the weekend.
Richter tallied the first of Ball State's seven individual event wins in the 200 IM (2:07.96), later picked up a win in the 100 fly (56.46) and posted a third-place finish in the 200 fly (2:10.15).
In the 400 medley relay, senior Nicole Saulters (Highland, Ind./Highland), sophomore Bridgette Ruehl (Lowell, Ind./Lowell), Richter and freshman Carlena Magley (Waterloo, Ind./DeKalb) tallied a time of 3:54.67 to capture the victory., in addition to posting a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:48:32).
To secure Ball State's ninth victory of the meet, Richter combined with sophomore
Cheyanne Jackson (Atlanta, Ind./Hamilton Heights), junior Jillian Bischoff (Atlanta,
Ind./Hamilton Heights) and sophomore Emily Wisolek (Middlebury,
Ind./Northridge) for a win in the 800 freestyle relay (7:47.30). Then,
Saulters, Bischoff, Richter and Magley captured the win in the 400 freestyle
relay at 3:36.10.
The award marks a spectacular season for Ball State (4-0), as the Cardinals also tallied MAC Swimmer of the Week honors Oct. 26 after Ruehl helped lead the squad to a 162-138 victory versus Evansville at Roy and Mary Wyttenbach Pool.
Richter and the Cardinals return to action Saturday, Dec. 10 at Lewellen Aquatic Center in a meet versus Michigan State at 1 p.m.
