Scouting Ball State: The Ball State women's basketball team opened its 2011-12 season with a 63-52 loss to Illinois State Friday night in Worthen Arena. Despite the loss freshman Brittany Carter led the Cardinals with 12 points, while junior Shanee' Jackson managed 10 points. Junior Mercedes Miller led Ball State defensively with 11 rebounds plus added six points. The Cardinals also out-rebounded Illinois State 45-to-37. Head Coach Kelly Packard will be looking for her 50th career victory against Wright State today.
Scouting Wright State: Wright State is coming off of a 78-68 exhibition victory over Georgetown College after trailing by six-points at the half Monday night at the Nutter Center. Molly Fox paced the Raiders with 20 points while teammates Kim Demmings and Courtney Boyd both chipped in 10 points apiece. The game against Ball State today marks Wright State's season opener.
The Coaches: Ball State head coach Kelly Packard is in her fourth season at Ball State . . . Packard's overall record at Ball State is 49-48 (.505), while her Mid-American Conference mark is 25-24 . . . Wright State's head coach is Mike Bradbury . . . he enters his second season as head coach for the Raiders . . . The Raiders were picked third in the Horizon League Preseason Poll . . . Wright State is coming off of one of its best seasons in history in 2011-11, winning 20 games for the first time as a Division I member.
The Series: Ball State defeated Wright State at home 64-63 last season . . . This is the 14th meeting all-time between Ball State and Wright State . . . The Raideres lead the all-time series record 7-6. The Cardinals have won their last three meetings over Wright State . . . The last meeting in Dayton resulted in a 61-52 victory for BSU in 2007.
Horizon League: The Cardinals will face four school's from the Horizon League this season Wright State, Detroit Mercey, Butler and Valparaiso. Ball State went 2-2 against the Horizon league last season with wins over Wright State and Valparaiso.
