Field Hockey Visits CMU for Weekend Matchup

MUNCIE, Ind. – Ball State heads to Mt. Pleasant, Mich. for a contest versus Mid-American Conference opponent Central Michigan Sunday at the Field Hockey Complex at 1 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT: Freshman forward Kaitlin Thompson (San Carlos, Calif./St. Francis), senior defender Gretchen Lulow (Ballwin, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) and freshman defender Laura Malinoski (Eastampton, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional) scored as the Ball State field hockey team defeated Missouri State, 3-2, Sunday at the BSU Turf Field.
The Cardinals outshot the Bears, 19-12, recorded a 17-7 advantage on penalty corners and capitalized on 3-of-13 shots on goal. Freshman midfielder Sanne Hermans (The Hague, Holland) recorded nine shots during the contest, while senior forward Devanny Kuhn (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy) posted three and Lulow, freshman midfielder Tori Widrick (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia) and Malinoski tallied two shots each.
Widrick also recorded a defensive save on the day, while senior goalkeeper Chelsea Mitchell (Stevens, Pa/Cocalico) finished the day with six saves during 70 minutes of action in the cage.
SCOUTING BALL STATE: The Cardinals enter weekend play with a 3-11 record on the season and 3-3 mark in league play as Ball State averages 9.1 shots per game, with Kuhn leading the squad with 3.79 shots per game. Hermans and Kuhn pace the Cardinals with 12 and 11 points, respectively, while Malinoski has posted three goals on the season and Lulow, Widrick and Teach have each tallied two.
Goalkeepers Mitchell and Haley Fusting (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy) have shared 980:00 in goal, including tallying 47 and 61 saves, respectively.
SCOUTING CENTRAL MICHIGAN: Under the guidance of 26-year head coach Cristy Freese, the Chippewas enter the Sunday contest with a 6-7 record and 4-3 tally in league play after defeating the Miami RedHawks, 3-2, Saturday. Freshman forward Cayleigh Immelmann leads Central Michigan's charge with 25 points, while junior netminder Anastasia Netto has tallied 928:35 in the cage and 54 saves, allowing 23 goals.
SERIES HISTORY: Saturday's contest marks the 65th time Ball State and Central Michigan will meet as the Cardinals own the 40-24 series advantage versus the Chippewas. The teams last met Saturday, Sept. 24 at the BSU Turf Field as Lulow scored her first goal of the season, however Ball State fell to Central Michigan, 5-1. The Chippewas outshot the Cardinals, 12-3, and recorded an 8-1 advantage on penalty corners.
Kuhn and senior midfielder Caitlin Maguire (Louisville, Ky./Presentation Academy) each tallied a shot, while Widrick and Malinoski recorded one and two defensive saves, respectively. Fusting accumulated four saves in 70:00 of action in the cage.
