Fredrich Named MAC West Defensive Player Of The Week

MUNCIE, Ind. - - For the second consecutive week, Ball State sophomore libero Catie Fredrich has been named the Mid-American Conference West Division Defensive Player of the Week.
This is Fredrich's second career MAC Player of the Week honor and the Cardinals' third this season, as sophomore middle blocker Mindy Marx was also named the MAC West Defensive Player of the Week for her efforts the week of Sept. 12-18.
Fredrich helped the first-place Ball State women's volleyball team to a 1-1 record last weekend, as the Cardinals secured a 3-0 sweep at Central Michigan (Friday) before falling at Eastern Michigan (Saturday) by a 3-1 score.
In Saturday match at EMU, Fredrich dominated the backcourt with a career-high and match-best 31 digs over four sets, marking the second straight Saturday she has tallied a career-high dig total. She also posted a .941 (16-of-17) effort in serve reception, while keeping all 13 of her service attempts in play.
In Friday's win at CMU, Fredrich tallied a match-best 12 digs, while posting a perfect 1.000 (16-for-16) effort in serve reception. She also served up a pair of aces, while keeping all 20 of her serves in play.
Fredrich averaged 6.14 digs per set for the weekend, while posting a .970 (32-of-33) reception percentage. She also went a perfect 33-for-33 from the service line, while blasting a pair of aces.
For the year, Fredrich has racked up double-digit digs in BSU's last 18 matches, while leading the Cardinals in digs in 15 of the last 16 contests. Of those 16 matches, she has earned match-high dig totals 13 times. From the service line, Fredrich has a team-best .993 service percentage with just two errors in 272 attempts. She has 11 aces and a 4.49 digs-per-set average for the season.
The Ball State women's volleyball team returns to action Friday, when it travels to Athens, Ohio, to battle Ohio in a 7 p.m. showdown of division leaders.
