Women's S&D Hosts Illinois State Friday

MUNCIE, Ind. - - The Ball State women's swimming & diving team returns action Friday evening, when it hosts Illinois State in a 6 p.m. dual meet at the Lewellen Aquatic Center. Admission to the meet is free for all fans.
The Cardinals, who just wrapped up a training trip in Ft. Pierce, Fla., enter the meet with a 3-1 overall record and have won three of the four invitational meets they have competed in. Illinois State is 2-1 in dual competition so far this season.
Both BSU and ISU have posted dual wins over Evansville this season, as Ball State opened the year with a 195-103 win over the Purple Aces (Oct. 8), while Illinois State scored a 168-132 win over its conference rival (Oct. 15).
In the latest meeting between the two programs, the Cardinals rallied from down 55-22 to post a thrilling 154-146 victory over the Redbirds at ISU's Horton Pool (Jan. 16, 2010). BSU won nine of the final 12 events to score the victory.
Entering its first competition of the 2011 calendar year, the Cardinals have 10 student-athletes ranked among the top 10 in their respective events in the Mid-American Conference rankings.
Freshmen Mallory Miles and Bridgette Ruehl are BSU's top-ranked swimmers, holding the No. 4 slot in the 100 backstroke (56.64) and 200 breaststroke (2:17.12), respectively. Miles also ranks sixth in the 200 backstroke (2:03.18) and 10th in the 400 IM (4:30.37), while Ruehl is also eighth in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.12).
In diving, junior Whitney Adams leads the squad with a No. 4 ranking on the three-meter board (301.10), while junior Christina Riordan paces BSU on the one-meter board ranking sixth (268.80).
