Field Hockey's Kuhn Earns Offensive Player of the Week Honors

The communications studies major tallied the honor for the second time in her career, having first earned the award earned Oct. 27, 2009 for a four-goal performance, two unassisted, against Missouri State.
Friday, versus Robert Morris Kuhn released from the pack for a breakaway goal at 17:03 mark against the Colonials' goaltender Stephanie Seeley. She then tallied her second goal of the game, and fourth of the season, at 48:56 mark.
Sunday versus St. Louis, Kuhn opened up the scoring for Ball State at 30:47 off of a penalty corner for her fifth goal of the season. At 67:34, she tallied her second goal of the day, and sixth of the season, on a rebound from the Billikens' netminder Alex LaBarge.
"We are thrilled that one of our captains was honored this week, as Devanny fights from the time the game starts until the time it ends," head coach Beth Maddox said. "She is a smart player and truly leads by example. Dev has a fire in her eyes when she goes to goal and that's something you can't teach. While Devanny stood out this week, any award is truly a testament to the work ethic of our team. Each member did their best this weekend and that's what ultimately matters."
Coming up on the Cardinals' calendar, the squad travels to play Northwestern and Iowa in a two-game series versus Big 10 Conference foes, starting Friday, Sept. 17 in Evanston, Ill. at 3 p.m. Friday's game marks the 24th time Ball State and Northwestern have met. The Wildcats own a 14-7-2 all-time record against the Cardinals. The teams last met Sept. 3, 2007 when Northwestern defeated Ball State, 5-2.
The contest versus Iowa Saturday, Sept. 18 marks the 21st meeting between the two teams, as the Hawkeyes own an 18-2 series advantage against the Cardinals. Northwestern finished the 2009 season with a 12-8 record (1-5 Big 10), while Iowa went 9-10 (3-3 Big 10).
