Brigit Reder Earns MAC Defensive Weekly Honor
September 07, 2010 | Soccer
MUNCIE, Ind. - Ball State sophomore defender Brigit Reder (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) has been named the Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. Reder becomes the first Cardinal to garner weekly honors since Rachael Murphy earned the accolades October 15, 2007.
"Brigit is a talented defender and a pillar of strength for our team," first-year head coach Craig Roberts said. "Although she is only a sophomore, she performs like a player with years of experience."
Reder has been the anchor for the Ball State defense this season and has helped the Cardinals open the year with a 4-2-0 record. Ball State has already matched last season's win total (4-13-1) and has recorded its best start through six games since the 2005 season (5-1-0). She has also helped BSU post two shutouts this season through six games.
Reder played a pivotal role this weekend in leading the Cardinals to their fourth win of the season with a 3-2 double overtime victory at Southeast Missouri. The victory snapped a nine-game unbeaten streak for SEMO at home as BSU became the first time to claim a victory in Cape Girardeau in over a calendar year.
Reder and the Cardinals return to action Friday afternoon as they continue their six-game road swing. Ball State will travel to Bowling Green, Ky., to battle Western Kentucky at 6 p.m. (CT).
