September 13, 2010 | Men's Tennis
MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State men's tennis team will open fall play when it particpates in the 35th annual Milwaukee Tennis Classic at the Town Club this weekend.
"Playing in the Milwaukee Classic is the highlight of our fall," said head Ball State men's tennis coach Bill Richards. "The quality of the event is second to none. The teams there are all very good and the hospitality is overwhelming. Players are treated like royalty. It is an event that the Milwaukee tennis community embraces and it is a tremendous experience. From a competitive standpoint it will give us a good idea how we stack up against great competition and we are looking forward to the challenge."
Four universities will be represented in the men's round robin event including Northwestern, Wisconsin, Marquette and Ball State. A point system will be used to determine champions on the men's side and a sportsmanship award is also presented. The Town Club features courts with a clay surface, which is unique to collegiate tournaments. Each round will consist of at least three doubles and six singles matchups. The sportsmanship winner will also be announced on Sunday. Junior Cliff Morrison was tabbed the singles champion winner at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic in 2009.
For the second-straight year RadioTennis.com will be providing coverage of the Milwaukee Tennis Classic. For the first time, however, free live audio coverage will be available of the entire tournament, with Ken Thomas handling the play-by-play duties.
