Men's Golf Ties for Second at Wolf Run

Ball State's men's golf team opened the 2010-11 season at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate at Wolf Run Golf Club in Carmel, Ind., and tied for second out of 15 teams, including three of the nation's top-30 squads.
Ball State managed a 296-290-292=878 and finished behind Illinois (859) and tied with Central Florida.
Eric Steger led Ball State and finished second after firing a 74-69-69=212. Alex Stinson tied for 40th with an 82-72-72=226. Tony Lazzara tallied a 72-83-72=227 to tie for 44th. Joe Gasser tied for 47th with a 71-77-80=228. Freshman Tyler Merkel tied for 58th with a 79-72-79=230. Anthony Novak, who competed as an individual, 87-85-79=251.
The Cardinals were joined at the event by Central Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa State, IUPUI, Kansas State, Kentucky, Louisville, North Florida, Northwestern, Michigan, Missouri, Penn State and Tulsa.
Steger was named to the All-Mid-American Conference Second Team after leading Ball State with a 73.00 average in 2009-10. Gasser was fourth on the team with a 75.00 average. Stinson appeared in five tournaments, while Lazzara played in four tournaments for the Cardinals last season.
