Women's Golf Announces 2009-10 Award Winners

Ball State women's golf head coach Katherine Mowat announced this year's award winners at the team's postseason banquet.
Brittany Kelly was named the team's Most Valuable Player for a second straight season, after leading the Cardinals with a 75.06 average. Kelly managed eight top-10 and 10 top-20 placings while finishing as Ball State's top golfer in nine of 11 events. Kelly led the Cardinals to a second place finish at the Mid-American Conference Championships, the best placing in Ball State's school history. She managed a second place finish as an individual and was named to the All-MAC First Team and the All-MAC Tournament Team.
Katie Windlan, a sophomore for the Cardinals, was named the team's Most Improved Player. She completed the season with an 80.90 average, including two top-20 finishes. Windlan tallied a career low 74 at Ball State's own Cardinal Classic, and managed a career best finish when she tied for 13th at the Iowa Hawkeye Invitational.
Chantelle Hefer, who started school at Ball State in January, was named the team's Rookie of the Year. Hefer competed in three tournaments and tallied one top-10 finish.
Autumn Duke was named Ball State's Most Inspirational, while Rachael Pruett received the team's Unsung Hero Award.
Ball State's lone senior, Kirsty O'Connor, received the Coach's Award. O'Connor tallied a 79.13 average while competing in all 11 events. She was also named the recipient of the MAC's Sportsmanship Award.
The Cardinals managed 10 top-10 finishes in 11 tournaments, including a team title at the MAC Tournament Preview in Fishers, Ind.
