Gymnastics Inks Aftyn Siemer to Letter of Intent
April 26, 2010 | Gymnastics
Aftyn Siemer has signed a national letter of intent to attend Ball State University and compete on the women's gymnastics team, according to Ball State head coach Nadalie Walsh.
Siemer, who is graduating in three years from Franklin Heights High School in Ohio, has competed at Integrity Gymnastics Club for the last two seasons under the tutelage of 1988 Olympic Gold Medalist Natalia Laschenova, who won the gold while competing for the Soviet Union. For eight years, Siemer competed for Dave Anthony at Universal Gymnastics Club in Ohio.
"We are really looking forward to having Aftyn's powerful and graceful gymnastics on the team beginning," Walsh says. "Her dedication to Ball state and the gymnastics program was apparent early on in the recruiting process. Aftyn decided to graduate high school a full year early by completing her junior and senior year of course work all in one year so she could join the team as soon as possible. She has already displayed success as a student-athlete and we expect her fine qualities to add a lot to the direction of the program. She has already proved her passion and dedication to the sport, so I am confident she will be a key player even at a young age."
Siemer was a Level 10 Regional Qualifier and finished sixth in the all-around at the Level 10 State Meet this past season. She was a member of the Level 9 National Championship Team and helped her club with a second place showing on the floor, a third place finish in the vault and a sixth place finish in the all-around. Siemer is also a former Level 9 Regional Champion and state champion in the all-around.
The daughter of John and Heather Siemer, Aftyn is an Honor Roll student at Franklin Heights with a 3.6 cumulative grade-point average.
