Women's Golf Finishes Second at MAC Championships
April 25, 2010 | Women's Golf
Ball State's women's golf team finished in second place at the 2010 Mid-American Conference Championships at The Hawthorns Golf Course in Fishers, Ind.
The second place showing was the best in school history for the Cardinals at the MAC Championships, beating the third-place showing for Ball State in the 2006 event.
The Cardinals tallied a 301-304-306=911 to finish behind only the nation's 33rd-ranked Kent State Golden Flashes, who captured a 12th straight MAC Championship and stand as the only school to ever win the MAC title in women's golf. Kent State won the event with an 892, while Toledo was third with a 912 and Eastern Michigan was fourth with a 926.
Brittany Kelly, a native of Fishers, Ind., placed second in the event after carding a 76-74-71=221. She finished three strokes behind Kent State's Martina Gavier's 218. Kelly's final round 71 was the low final round of the tournament. Her second place finish at the MAC Championships is the second best in Ball State history behind only Katie Sundberg's medalist performance in 2005. Kelly's second place finish was her best of the season, topping her third place showing at the UNLV Rebel Spring Invitational March 8-10.
Rachael Pruett finished fifth at the 2010 MAC Championships with a 72-73-79=224, while Kristtini Cain tied for 15th at the championships with a 77-77-76=230.
Kirsty O'Connor, Ball State's lone senior on the 2010 roster, tied for 23rd with a 76-81-80=237. Katie Windlan tied for 33rd with an 84-80-82=246.
