T&F Wins Four Events At Stan Lyons Invitational

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - - Ball State women's outdoor track and field student-athletes posted first-place efforts in four of the 11 events they competed in at Saturday's Stan Lyons Invitational, which was a non-scored meet hosted by Butler.
With a limited roster at the meet, the Cardinals competed in 11 of the 19 total women's events, scoring 15 top 10 individual finishes.
Ball State opened the meet with its first event victory, as Tyra Schantz (Bloomfield, Ind./White River Valley H.S.) continued her solid senior campaign with a first-place toss of 152-07 (46.50m) in the hammer throw.
Redshirt sophomore multi-event specialist Thekla Lorenz (Hamburg, Germany) won the only event she competed in on the afternoon, tuning in a leap of 19-1.5 (5.83m) in the long jump.
Junior Megan Cherry (Hobart, Ind./Hobart H.S.) would follow in the pit with a first-place triple jump distance of 35-9.25 (10.90m).
The Cardinals final event victory came on the track, when senior Jenna Schmitmeyer (Celina, Ohio/Celina H.S.) posted a career-fast time of 1:01.91 to win the 400m hurdles by a second.
The Ball State women's outdoor track and field team returns to action next Saturday, when it travels to Terre Haute, Ind., for the Pacesetter Invitational hosted by Indiana State.
