April 22, 2010 | Track & Field
MUNCIE, Ind. - - The Ball State women's outdoor track and field teams hits the road again Saturday, when it travels to Indianapolis, Ind., for the 2010 Stan Lyons Invitational hosted by Butler. Field events are set to begin at 10 a.m., while running events start at 4 p.m.
With an 80 percent chance of rain in the forecast for Saturday, the Cardinals will look to dodge the raindrops as they attempt to build on more season-best efforts set at last weekend's Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational hosted by Louisville.
At the meet, the Cardinals scored 20 top 10 efforts, including a second-place finish by junior Ra'Jae Marable (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer H.S.) in the 100m hurdles. Marable clocked in with a career-fast time of 14.18 in the event, which is currently the fourth-fastest time in the league this season.
Thrower Tyra Schantz (Bloomfield, Ind./White River Valley H.S.) continued her solid senior campaign with a career-long toss of 157-5 (47.98) in the hammer throw. The effort has her ranked 14th among all league throwers in the event.
In the 400m dash, freshman Judah Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain H.S.) paced the Cardinals at the meet, clocking a career-fast 57.57 which is the 15th-best time in the league this season.
In the 400m hurdles, senior Jenna Schmitmeyer (Celina, Ohio/Celina H.S.) improved upon her previous best time of the year, crossing the finish line in 1:02.93. The effort is currently the seventh-best among MAC hurdlers this year.
In the jumps, junior Megan Cherry (Hobart, Ind./Hobart H.S.) turned in a career-best triple jump of 36-6.25 (11.13m), while redshirt sophomore Thekla Lorenz (Hamburg, Germany) added a season-best high jump of 5-2.25 (1.58m).
Rounding out BSU's season-best performances in the meet were senior Sarah Kehe (Westville, Ind./Chesterton H.S.) and freshman MaryKate Mellen (Michigan City, Ind./Michigan City H.S.) with times of 11:36.91 and 12:18.65, respectively, in the 3,000m steeplechase.
