T&F Scores 20 Top 10s At Clark Wood/Lenny Lyles Invitational

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - The Ball State women's outdoor track & field team posted 20 top 10 efforts, including five top three finishes, at the 2010 Clark Wood/Lenny Lyles Invitational hosted by Louisville Friday afternoon. The meet was schedule to run the whole day, but with severe weather in the forecast, action was completed in a condensed time frame.
The Cardinals scored 46 total points to place fifth in the five team meet which won by host and 21st-ranked Louisville with 144 points. Illinois State followed in a close second with 143 points, followed by Central Michigan (132) and Ohio State (81).
Junior Ra'Jae Marable (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) was the Cardinals top finisher, scoring a second-place time of 14.18 in the 100m hurdles. In addition to being a career-best effort, the time is the second-fastest in the league so far this season.
Senior Jenna Schmitmeyer (Celina, Ohio/Celina H.S.) added another solid effort in the 400m hurdles, placing third overall with a season-fast time of 1:02.93.
Redshirt sophomore multi-event specialist Thekla Lorenz (Hamburg, Germany) also had a strong meet, posting top-10 efforts in all four individual events she competed in. Lorenz's top event was the javelin throw, where she placed third overall with a throw of 109-03 (33.29m). She also placed fifth in the long jump (18-9.75/5.73m), seventh in the 100m hurdles (14.91) and 10th in the high jump (5-2.25/1.58m).
Freshman Tara Spitzer-Long (New Haven, Ind./New Haven) added her first career top-three outdoor finish, posting a height of 9-6.25 (2.90m) in the pole vault.
The Cardinals 4x400m relay of sophomore Renyae Owsley (Indianapolis, Ind./Northwest H.S.), Lorenz, Schmitmeyer and freshman Judah Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain H.S.) posted the Cardinals fifth and final top three effort in the meet, combining to cross the finish line in third at 3:58.65.
The Ball State women's outdoor track & field team returns to action next Saturday, when it travels to Indianapolis, Ind., for the Stan Lyons Invitational hosted by Butler.
