MUNCIE, Ind. - Bringing Brittney Emmons to Indiana from Florida was a pivotal move for the Ball State gymnastics program and head coach Nadalie Walsh.
"I fell in love with her right away," Walsh said. "She's very serious about the sport and very serious about school. She's all around what I need as a program-changing athlete."
"I came up here and it was a great school" Emmons said ion her decision to come to Muncie. "I feel like there were specific reasons why every single girl is here. There's a possibility everyone who's here can change the program and I am just part of that."
Entering the week, Emmons is seventh in the Central Region and tied for 43rd in the nation on the floor with a 9.860 Regional Qualifying Score. She has posted first-place finishes on the floor in seven of Ball State's 12 meets this season. Emmons posted a career best 9.900 on the floor in the Cardinals meet at New Hampshire. Emmons also ranks 23rd in the Region in the all-around with a 38.675 RQS. She has won two all-around titles this season, and owns a career best 39.300 score in a meet at Illinois State earlier this year.
Ball State, under the direction of third-year head coach Nadalie Walsh, has moved up to ninth in the Central Regional Team Rankings. Ball State is the third best Mid-American Conference school in the region. Alabama, LSU, Auburn and Kentucky are the top four schools in the Region, while Central Michigan is fifth, followed by Michigan State, Kent State and Ohio State.
"I go out there and know people are counting on me," Emmons said. "Win or lose, fall or make, my team has my back. There is a MAC title in our future before I leave this school."
The 2010 MAC Championships are slated for March 27 at Bowling Green.
