December 01, 2010 | Field Hockey
MUNCIE, Ind. - Junior midfielders Gretchen Lulow (Ballwin, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) and Devanny Kuhn (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy) have been selected to the 2010 Field Hockey Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team, as announced Wednesday by the league office.
After collecting Second-Team All-MAC honors for the first time on her collegiate career, Lulow finished a stellar junior season with Academic All-MAC honors. The exercise science major owns a 3.88 GPA and started all 20 games in 2010 and tallied 20 points from four goals and 12 assists. Lulow also collected nine defensive saves on the season for second place on the team. In the nation, she ranks fourth in defensive saves and 20th in assists per game (0.63).
Kuhn owns a 3.24 GPA as a communication studies major and stands as a second-year recipient of the honor. Combined with First-Team All-MAC accolades, the awards cap a spectacular junior season for Kuhn, as she also tallied MAC Offensive Player of Week honors on two occasions. This season, Kuhn collected 33 points, including five game-winning goals and a defensive save. With 15 goals, she has doubled her total of goals scored during both the 2008-09 seasons (7). Also, with her team-leading 15 goals so far this season, Kuhn leads all active BSU scorers with 22 career goals and her 52 career points stand as the most among active BSU players. She also stands two goals shy of breaking Chantelle Isaac's record of 23 goals (2003-05) and 15 goals short of breaking Lindsay Quay's career record of 37 goals (2003-06). Kuhn also ranks 17th in the nation in goals per game (0.88) and 25th in points per game with 1.94.
A total of 11 student-athletes earned Academic All-MAC honors, with Kent State leading all schools with four selections, followed by Ball State and Ohio with two selections each.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50% of the contests for that particular sport.
