Women's Basketball Wins Exhibition 105-56

MUNCIE, Ind. -- The Ball State University women's basketball team defeated St. Joseph's (Ind.) 105-56 in an exhibition game Thursday night in Worthen Arena.
Every player in uniform scored for the Cardinals with senior forward Emily Maggert leading the way with 17 points and adding 11 rebounds. Four other Cardinals scored in double figures, junior forward Suzanne Grossnickle, along with teammate senior guard Ebony Jackson, chipped in 13 points apiece. Freshman Jordan Huber added 12 points.
Maggert opened the game's scoring by knocking down a two-point basket to put Ball State on the board first, but on St. Joseph's first possession the Pumas would hit a three pointer to take the early lead. Sophomore guard Mercedes Miller answered with a trey making the score 5-3 in favor of the Cardinals and the Pumas would lead only one more time at, 10-9, at the 15:25 mark.
Ball State dominated the remainder of the game after a 9-0 run, sparked by a layup from junior center Amber Crago, gave Ball State an 18-10 cushion 12:34 remaining.
After taking a 56-27 lead into the half, Ball State outscored the Pumas by 20 in the second half to end the game with the 105-56 victory.
Defensively the Cardinals limited the Pumas to 34 percent shooting from the field for the game, including a 30 percent mark from three-point range. Ball State dominated the boards and ended the contest with a 61-32 rebounding advantage. In addition, the Cardinals forced St. Joseph's into 25 turnovers, while only committing 13 as a team.
Ball State will open its 2010-11 regular season at home against Big Ten foe Indiana Friday, Nov. 12. The game is set for a 7 p.m. tipoff at Worthen Arena.
