Katie Bylsma Named MAC Swimmer Of The Week

MUNCIE, Ind. - - After helping guide the Ball State women's swimming & diving team to a dominating victory at the IUPUI House of Champions meet last weekend, BSU senior swimmer Katie Bylsma (Westfield, Ind./Pinckney H.S.) has been named the Mid-American Conference Women's Swimmer of the Week.
This is Bylsma's first award of the season and second of her career. She first picked up the honor on Dec. 15, 2009.
In the two-day House of Champions meet, Bylsma helped guide the Cardinals to a 330.5-point margin of victory over the seven-team field by collecting first-place finishes in six events. BSU tallied 899 points in the event, with Xavier finishing second at 568.5.
At the meet, Bylsma picked up individual wins in both the 100 freestyle (53.72) and the 200 freestyle (1:56.84), while placing third in the 50 freestyle (24.59). She was also a member of four first-place relays; the 200 free relay (1:38.10), 400 medley relay (3:57.85), 800 free relay (7:56.27) and 400 free relay (3:36.56).
Bylsma and the Cardinals return to action Friday, when it hosts the two-day Doug Coers Invitational. Action gets underway at 6 p.m. Friday evening at the Lewellen Aquatic Center and picks up again Saturday at 9 a.m.
