WBB Announces Team Captains for 2010-11 Season

"I am pleased to announce the selection of our 2010-2011 team captains," said Packard. "Emily, Ty'Ronda, and Suz each have essential, yet very different gifts in areas of leadership. They will complement one another well and provide great peer accountability."
Maggert was named MAC Player of the Week on two occasions last season (12/14/09 and 12/21/09). She earned 19 double-doubles for the year which was good for 13th in the nation. Maggert holds the BSU record for rebounds in a season with 329 and ranks seventh all time in rebounds with 687. She was a preseason All-MAC selection and led the team with 17.0 points per game and 10.6 rebounds. Maggert has received postseason All-MAC honors each year since her freshman season. She scored a season-high 28 points against Bowling Green last season.
Grossnickle played in 24 games last year for the Cardinals while averaging 2.0 points per game and 1.5 rebounds. She scored a season high six points on two different occasions in a win against Duquesne and matched that high in Mid-American Conference action at Ohio University. Grossnickle also brought down a season high six rebounds at Duquesne.
In her debut season Benning started in 27 games for the Cardinals averaging 9.8 points per game and 3.1 rebounds. Benning was the third leading scorer on the team with 294 points and ranked second in assists with 93. The Muncie native had a career day in a win over Illinois State last year when she led the Cardinals in scoring with 22 points. Benning scored in double figures 15 times last season. In her first Cardinal start she dropped in 13 points and eight rebounds on the road at Michigan.
The Cardinals advanced to the quarterfinals of the MAC Tournament after defeating Western Michigan 67-43 in the first round, which earned Ball State its 20th appearance in the MAC Tournament quarterfinals in program history. Ball State ended the season 14-17 overall and 7-9 in the MAC.
The Ball State University women's basketball team will open the 2010-11 season at home against Big Ten foe Indiana, Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. in Worthen Arena.
