Men's Basketball Begins Practice For 2010-11 Season

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State men's basketball team took part in its first official practice for the 2010-11 season Friday evening. The Cardinals held a two hour practice to kick off the preseason practice schedule under the tutelage of fourth-year head coach Billy Taylor.
The Cardinals return nine letterwinners from last year's team, including four full-time starters and five players who started at least 11 games last year. The Cardinals are led by four-year letterwinner and lone senior Malik Perry (Philadelphia, Pa./Philadelphia Lutheran), who has played in 85 career games.
Ball State has a core group of four juniors in Jarrod Jones (Michigan City, Ind./Michigan City), Randy Davis (Plymouth, Ind./Plymouth), Pierre Sneed (Chicago, Ill./Simeon) and Mo Hubbard (Chantilly, Va./Westfield) who have played a combined 228 games, including 136 starts in their first two seasons.
Jones earned First Team All-MAC honors last year as he averaged 12.2 points and 7.4 rebounds last year. Davis finished second on the team in scoring at 10.3 points per game but finished the year averaging 16.1 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.5 assists over the final 12 games of the year. Sophomore guard Jauwan Scaife (Muncie, Ind./Muncie Central) also highlights the returning Cardinals as he played all 30 games last year and averaged 10.2 points per game.
The Cardinals also return redshirt sophomore Zach Fields (North Vernon, Ind./Jennings County) and sophomores John Green (Osceola, Ind./Naval Academy Prep), Franklin Henderson (Indianapolis, Ind./Anderson Univ.) and Adrian Tucker (New Castle, Ind./New Castle).
Ball State welcomes in a six-member recruiting class this season that is comprised of five freshmen and one sophomore. The Cardinals added rookies Matt Kamieniecki (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston), Jay Copeland (Suffolk, Va./King's Fork), Tyrae Robinson (Gary, Ind./Bowman Academy), Chris Bond (Gary, Ind./Bowman Academy) and Jesse Berry (Lafayette, Ind./Jefferson) while also bringing in local product Tyler Koch (Winchester, Ind./Wright State) as a transfer.
