Field Hockey Hosts Ohio, Kent State

MUNCIE, Ind. - Ball State returns to Mid-American Conference action this weekend as the Cardinals host the Ohio Bobcats and Kent State Golden Flashes Friday at 3 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. The contest versus Kent State stands as Ball State's annual Think Pink game as the Cardinals join the fight against breast cancer. Donations will benefit the Ball Memorial Cancer Center.
SCOUTING OHIO: The contest versus Ohio Friday marks the 67th meeting between the two teams, as the Cardinals own a 34-32 series advantage against the Bobcats. On Sept. 26, Ohio shutout Ball State, 7-0, at Pruitt Field. The Bobcats outshot the Cardinals, 21-2, and connected on 7-of-17 shots on goal.
Kuhn and senior forward Ellen Vonderbrink (Kettering, Ohio/Fairmont) each tallied one shot during the contest, while Lulow finished with a defensive save. Sophomore goalkeeper Morgan Hammer (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel Area) also recorded nine saves during the contest. Taylor Brown paces the Bobcats with 65 shots, 22 points and 10 goals. This past weekend, Ohio defeated both Kent State and Missouri State by scores of 3-1, and 3-0.
SCOUTING KENT STATE: Saturday's game marks the 60th time Ball State and Kent State have met. The Cardinals own a 32-27-1 all-time record against the Golden Flashes. On Sept. 25, Kent State defeated Ball State 7-2, at Murphy-Mellis Field. The Golden Flashes outshot the Cardinals, 27-9, and connected on 8-of-17 shots on goal.
Senior back Elizabeth Blaum (Wilkes Barre, Pa./Wyoming Seminary) and junior forward Brittany Hammer (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph's) each scored their first goal of the season. Junior midfielder Devanny Kuhn (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart) also recorded four shots in the game. Junior midfielder CJ Hermes (Louisville, Ky./Mercy) added one shot, while sophomore goalkeeper Morgan Hammer (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel Area) tallied nine saves in the cage.
Top scorer Debbie Bell leads Kent State's charge with 32 points on the season as she has accounted for nearly half of the Golden Flashes' goals since the beginning of the year (14-of-39). This past weekend, Kent State defeated Missouri State, 9-1, Sunday, but fell to Ohio, 3-1, Friday.
KUHN EARNS MAC HONORS: Kuhn has been named the MAC Co-Offensive Player of the Week for her performance during last weekend's contests against Central Michigan and UC Davis. The communications studies major tallied the honor for the third time in her career and second time this season.
