MUNCIE, Ind. - Ball State junior midfielder Devanny Kuhn (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart) has been named the Mid-American Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week for her performance during last weekend's play against Central Michigan and UC Davis.
The communication studies major tallied the honor for the third time in her career and second time this season, having first earned the award earned Oct. 27, 2009 for a four-goal performance, two unassisted, against Missouri State and on Sept. 8 after combining for four goals and two assists on the weekend against Robert Morris and St. Louis.
"We are very proud of Devanny and her accomplishments," head coach Beth Maddox said. "Our team really came together and worked as a unit."
Kuhn scored the game-winning goal in overtime as Ball State defeated Central Michigan, 3-2, Saturday afternoon. With just 15 seconds to go in the second half, Kuhn evened the score at 2-2 and sent the contest into overtime after junior midfielder Gretchen Lulow (Ballwin, Mo/Cor Jesu) sent her a pass from down the midfield. Then at 71:03 mark, Kuhn continued her hot-shooting and buried the game-winning goal on an unassisted shot for her 11th goal of the season.
Sunday, against UC Davis back at the BSU Turf Field, Kuhn netted a goal, however the Cardinals fell to the Aggies, 2-3. Ball State did not score until 27:27 mark, when Kuhn scored off of a penalty corner for her 12th goal of the season. She also finished the contest with six shots.
Kuhn shares the honor with Kent State's Debbie Bell.
Ball State returns to league action this weekend as the Cardinals host the Ohio Bobcats and Kent State Golden Flashes Friday at 3 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. The contest versus Ohio Friday marks the 67th meeting between the two teams, as the Cardinals own a 34-32 series advantage against the Bobcats.
