Softball Has Flyers And Boilermakers On Tap

Muncie, Ind. ? The Ball State softball team improved to 20-16 overall and stands with10-1 Mid-American Conference record heading into Tuesday's matchup against Dayton in a double header at the BSU Softball Complex, followed by a road trip to Purdue 4 p.m. Wednesday.
As head coach Craig Nicholson surpasses his 801st career victory, Ball State shows five players batting over .300 with Alyssa Collins leading the way at .366 with 41 hits. Kristy Stratton is second on the team with a .350 average on 7-for-20 in hitting. Alicia Barkley led over the weekend with a .571 average and five stolen bases, including three against Bowling Green in game one. She also drove in the game winner with an RBI single in the ninth inning at Toledo. Lisa Rozanski has continued her streak with a perfect 21 of 21 stolen bases and logged her sixth triple of the season to take sole position in fifth on the single-season charts. Rozanski and Allie Pennock are in a close race for first on the all-time stolen base charts as Rozanski has 64 and Pennock has 62. Former player Heather Hinkle (1996-99) owns the record with 70.
Elizabeth Milian leads in the circle with a 1.85 ERA for a 15-10 record. She has accumulated four shutouts with 146 strikeouts this season, the most in a single-season in her career. Laura Masch also improved her record to 5-3 with a win over Bowling Green in which she gave up just three hits.
ABOUT DAYTON
The Flyers are currently 8-27 overall with a 4-6 Atlantic 10 record. Dayton has won the last three of its four games in conference, sweeping St. Bonaventure by more than three runs in both and splitting with George Washington. Molly Meyer leads with a .365 average that includes 10 doubles, three triples and two home runs. Pitcher Eva Rappe boasts a 4.49 ERA for a 3-17 record. She has 62 strikeouts on the season while giving up 101 runs in just six complete games, the most on the team.
ABOUT PURDUE
The Boilermakers own a 20-14 overall record and are 5-5 in the Big Ten. The team is coming off two shutout-losses at home against conference opponent Iowa that included a no-hitter. Purdue is led by Liane Horiuchi with a .371 batting average on 36 hits in 34 games. Pitcher Susie Rzegocki has tallied 143 strikeouts this season for a 16-9 record and 1.50 ERA in 17 complete games.
The Cardinals are back at the BSU Softball Complex 1 p.m. Friday for a double header matchup against Northern Illinois. Ball State takes on Western Michigan 2 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday for its second-to-last home stand.
