February 13, 2009 | Football
Ball State head football coach Stan Parrish has announced Daryl Dixon has been named the Cardinals defensive secondary coach.
In addition, Pat Perles, who was named Ball State's offensive line coach Jan. 20, has resigned to pursue a coaching position in professional football.
"Coach Dixon is a very impressive young coach," Parrish says. "In addition to his All-SEC career, his academic and leadership qualities are what really attracted him to us. He is a very mature young man, and Coach Doug Graber and myself are looking forward to his assisting with our secondary and becoming a part of the Ball state family."
Dixon comes to Ball State after spending the 2008 season as a defensive graduate assistant at Illinois. He was an assistant strength and conditioning coach for football at Illinois during the 2006 and 2007 seasons. Dixon spent the 2004 and 2005 seasons as a member of the National Football League's Indianapolis Colts after a stellar playing career at the University of Florida. A 2003 graduate of Florida, Dixon played in 49 games with 25 starts for the Gators. He was a team captain as a senior and named to the All-Southeastern Conference Second Team in his final season. A two-time Academic All-SEC selection, Dixon managed 218 career tackles and was named Florida's Most Outstanding Defensive Back as a freshman in 1999. Dixon was selected as Florida's Male Outstanding Senior Leader among the entire student body for the fall 2003 graduating class.
