Scouting Ball State: The Cardinals enter today's game on a high note after capturing an 86-80 defeat over Illinois State Sunday in Worthen Arena. The win over the Redbirds marks the first time a Mid-American Conference school has defeated Illinois State since 2006-07. It was a career day for Muncie native and junior guard Ty'Ronda Benning who led the Cardinals in scoring with 22 points. Three other Cardinals scored in double figures with junior forward Emily Maggert chipping in 21 points, while teammates Audrey McDonald, a senior guard, had 16 points and senior forward Danielle Gratton ended the day with 14.
Scouting Duquesne: The Dukes enter today's contest with an 8-3 overall record. Duquesne is coming off of back-to-back wins over fellow Mid-American Conference member Ohio (52-50) and recently defeated Cansius Wednesday night, 72-70. Samantha Pollino blocked an Ashley Durham layup as time expired in the second overtime to secure a 72-70 victory for the Duquesne women's basketball team on Wednesday night. After bring held scoreless in the first half, Kelly Britcher erupted for 18 points to help the Dukes pull out the win. Pollino added 14 points and 12 rebounds en route to her seventh career double-double. Alex Gensler and Keri Pryor added 13 and 10 respectfully for Duquesne (8-3) who ended the Canisius (5-3) five-game winning streak.Brittane Russell scored a game-high 20 points for the Golden Griffins. The double-overtime win marks the second consecutive season DU has started the season 8-3.
Ball State Begins Three Game Roadswing: The Cardinals begin a three game roadswing when it travels to Pittsburght to take on Duquesne (Dec. 19). After that the Cardinals will travel to Evansville (Dec. 22) and will then close out road play for 2009 at Butler (Dec. 30).
