XC Finishes 13th At Notre Dame Invitational Friday

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - - The Ball State cross country team turned in a 13th-place finish (341 points) in the gold race at the Notre Dame Invitational Friday at the Notre Dame Golf Course.
The Cardinals competed in the gold race behind a third-place clocking of 17:44 by senior Ali Bishel (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton H.S.), who has led BSU in each meet she has competed in this season.
BSU's second-best effort came from senior Sarah Kehe (Westville, Ind./Chesterton H.S.), who finished 65th overall (19:13). Redshirt freshman Christine Talhelm (Indianapolis, Ind./Franklin Central H.S.) finished just 13 seconds behind Kehe (19:26) to notch a 77th-place finish.
Also placing for BSU were freshmen Allison Blanck (Indianapolis, Ind./Franklin Central H.S.), MaryKate Mellen (Michigan City, Ind./Michigan City H.S.), and Andrea Korzan, who finished 87th (19:37), 109th (20:01), and 119th (20:37), respectively.
Grand Valley State won the women's gold division behind a second-place finish from Megan Maceratini while Ayla Mitchell of Oshkosh was the individual champion (17:31).
In the blue division, Washington came away victorious by sweeping the top four overall spots including first-place finisher Kendra Schaff (16:31).
BSU has next weekend off before returning to action Saturday, Oct. 17 when the Cardinals travel to Bloomington, Ind. for the Sam Bell Invitational hosted by Indiana.
MEET PREVIEW
MUNCIE, Ind. - - The Ball State cross country team will travel to Notre Dame, Ind. to compete in the 2009 Notre Dame Invitational Friday, which features a gold and blue division for both women and men. The Cardinals will participate in the women's gold race which is set to get underway at 2 p.m at the Notre Dame Golf Course.
The women's gold race pits the Cardinals versus 22 other schools, including Mid-American Conference foe Eastern Michigan. The blue race, which is comprised of 20 schools, begins at 4:15 p.m.
Senior Ali Bishel (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton H.S.) will return to action with BSU after missing last weekend's weather-shortened 3K race at the Ohio Invitational due to academic obligations. Bishel won the Cardinals' first meet at the Indiana Intercollegiates, clocking a 5K time of 17:28.
Senior Sarah Kehe (Westville, Ind./Chesterton H.S.) was BSU's best student-athlete at the Ohio Invitational, finishing 11th overall (11:10.16) after placing 25th (19:07) at the Indiana Intercollegiates Sep. 18.
Redshirt freshman Christine Talhelm (Indianapolis, Ind./Franklin Central H.S.) has been one of BSU's top three performers in each race, finishing 29th (11:35.22) and 41st (19:43) at the Ohio Invitational and Indiana Intercollegiates, respectively.
