The Ball State women's golf team ended day one of the 2008 Cardinal Classic in first place as the Cardinals posted a team score of 302 in 18-holes on Monday afternoon at The Players Club. Grand Valley State and Mid-American Conference foe Akron are three shots off the lead and tied for second with a score of 305.
Indiana State sits in fourth with a score of 306 and Northern Arizona is in fifth place with a score of 308. California (Pa.) (312), Ohio (312), Cleveland State (316), Eastern Kentucky (317), Bowling Green (319), Northern Illinois (319), IUPUI (321) and Oakland (326) round out the first day team scores.
California (Pa.) golfer Simone DeSouza holds the individual lead after the first day as she turned in a score of 71. Ball State freshman K.C. Cain (Marion, Ind./Marion) is tied for second with Gabrielle Andersson after shooting a 73.
Junior Kirsty O'Connor (Burnley, Lancashire, U.K./Habergham) turned in a opening round of 75 to sit in a tie for seventh place after the first day. Sophomore Brittany Kelly (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) also finds herself in the top-10 after the first day as she is tied for 10th with an opening day score of 76.
The 13-team field will conclude the 2008 Cardinal Classic Tuesday morning with 18-hole beginning with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
